Dinh Yen village located in Dong Thap Province – Mekong Delta and well-know for its mat production. Gray sedge is farm everything along with rice fields. But in this village, gray sedge is prefered and a staple which used as a material to produce mat.
Mattresses are more popular nowadays in the mekong delta. But in remote area or countrysides, many people still use and prefer mat. This village is the largest one that still produce mat in the Mekong Delta and distribute to the whole region.
Gray sedge after harvested will be dyed into various colors like shown in the photos below:
After that, It will be hanged and wat until completely dry. Local workers will be busy working with it. The colorful materials look very photogenic and beautiful.
It’s one of the Mekong Delta Attractions that visitors should visit when traveling to the mekong delta. After that, the materials will be transfer into weaving machines. And local workers here normally make about 5-6 dollars a day.
